Dominic Murphy at work daydreaming

The Artist

Dominic Murphy was born in  Sheffield in 1963. Studied fine art painting at St. Martin's School of Art and now lives in Hertfordshire.

Working predominantly in Watercolour in the English tradition. His work covers many varied themes, literature, alchemy, tarot, maps, the beloved English Bull terrier plus many more.

He is quoted as declaring that "Francis Bacon ruined his life." Having seen Bacon's work at a young age he realised that was a path he would surely have to follow - and the way is narrow.

Collectors remark that if you own a Dominic Murphy you own a part of him.

" We are born creators, but the greatest achievement is to inspire others.

I am constantly learning not to paint from the head where the thoughts are filtered and conditioned but to paint from the gut where the hunger is."

Daydream Believer

Droning in the background a teacher mumbles something about equations and trigonometry, I'm sitting by a window gazing out at the trees gently dancing in the breeze. I'm daydreaming.

"Murphy! Pay attention!"

I  shrink back into the classroom my daydream abruptly brought to an end.

Daydreaming is frowned upon.

Meanwhile there's a mouse far away in a Harvard laboratory, sensors connected to its brain reveal the neurons form into the image of a piece of cheese he's remembering, better still imagining, even better than that he's daydreaming.

His brain is much benefitted by this, his neurons are creating pathways and increasing plasticity, it's a mind workout for a healthy brain. This is particularly beneficial to the creative mind, the artist, the professional daydreamer.
